Choosing Bar Stool
Barstools were originally designed to furnish bars and pubs
- with three legs to provide ample support and to hold the
weight and rough handling of any drunkard. Today, however,
this piece of furniture can also be found in restaurants and
homes - kitchens, game rooms, living rooms, even backyards.
Often known as counter stools, the types of bar stools are
available in a wide variety and offer great flexibility when
it comes to design, aesthetics and function. From the swivel
bar stool to the adjustable bar stool; from the elegant
leather bar stool to the classic wood bar stool, these
furnishings are fast catching up as a preferred choice of
seating.
The price of a counter stool can range from reasonable to
expensive, depending heavily on the materials used to make
the stool as well as the mechanisms used to operate its
functions (if any).
Before choosing a type of stool to buy, you must first
determine why you want a counter stool of this sort. Bearing
in mind that a barstool is able to hold the weight of even a
Sumo wrestler, this piece of furniture is built to last you
a long, long time. Where you want to place these stools will
also help to determine the type of seating that might be
suitable. For example, if you're intending to decorate your
outdoors (like a backyard, for example) with counter stools,
you might want to choose stools designed and built with
materials that are able to withstand the weather. Choosing
stools that are wooden or stools that have seat cushioning
might prove to be detrimental to the life expectancy of your
piece of furniture.
Swivel stools are a great option as they contain a mechanism
that enables the seat of your stool to rotate 360 degrees
easily. If you have children at home, however, you might
want to consider restricting the degree of rotation of your
stools as they might find the swivel function a novelty and
make rough use of your stool. Adjustable counter stools are
another type of stool that offers increased functionality.
These are commonly fitted with a self-leveling foot glide
that allows you to adjust the height of the stool so that it
offers optimal comfort for the user.
The décor of your interior is another important factor in
helping you determine the type of stool to buy. For example,
if you've got a traditional theme going in your home, you
might prefer to look for stools made with darker woods and
comfortable cushioning made from soft, warm fabrics to add a
touch of richness to the ambience of the room. On the other
hand, a country look might call for stools that are wooden
and stained in two complementary shades to create an
inviting feel. You might also prefer a more modern look
instead and find that counter stools made from metals fit in
well with this feel.
Additional features of a counter stool could include
footrests, armrests and even backing. As a general guide, a
stool designed for a bar should be approximately 10 to 13
inches lower than the counter top so that it can simply
slide under the counter for easy storage.
At the end of the day, the type of stool you choose will
depend on your personal preference. A
bar stool is a great
choice for seating that not only provides comfort and ease
of use but one that lasts the test of time.
